Guardlid® Child-Resistant Lidding for Blister Packaging

Child Resistant/Senior Friendly packaging means safety, security and convenience – preventing children from gaining access to the package’s content, all while considering functionality for adults and senior citizens.

Guardlid® represents Amcor’s family of lidding specifications for CR/SF blisters with the necessary puncture resistance and specialized peelability to meet both American standards and European testing criteria (EN ISO14375/BS8404 in Europe and US16CFR17200.20 in the US).

Amcor (former Alcan Packaging) invented the first child resistant blister lidding material. As a result Amcor offers the most experienced, knowledgeable applications advice available anywhere.

CR/SF blisters opening mechanism:

Push-through

  1. Push the pharmaceutical product through the foil

Peel-open

  1. Separate the individual blister cavity at the perforations
  2. Peel off the lid (PET or PET/Paper) and remove the product.

 Peel-push

  1. Separate the individual blister cavity at the perforations.
  2. Peel off the top layers (PET or PET/Paper at the designated place)
  3. Push the pharmaceutical product through the foil.

 Tear-open

  1. Separate the individual blister cavity at the perforations.
  2. Tear at notch at the designated place and remove the product.

The child resistance rating is determined on a scale ranging from F1 through F8. The F represents “fatal at” and the following number represents the number of doses, therefore, F4 is “fatal at 4 doses”.

Products contained within packaging rated at F1, i.e., lethal at one dose, should be very difficult for children to access – the highest requirements to opening mechanism, whereas, products rated at F8, i.e., lethal at 8 doses, do not require the same level of difficulty.
